PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVE

Strategizing is a valuable skill in a dynamic complex environment – where change is the order of the day. Regulatory changes as well as novel application of information and communication technology are creating new business challenges and possibilities. This new evolving world offers exciting possibilities of growth and profits, but creates new challenges as well. Strategy takes centre-stage in this new world. Designing innovative strategic moves are not only important in opening novel turfs for non-liner expansion and growth but also in protecting existing domains from threats.

The Advanced Program in Strategic Management (APSM) fromIIM Calcutta emphasizes looking at issues from a strategic perspective.
Understanding of market rivalries, institutions and power, leaderships and transformations are a few pivot areas of the program. Several contemporary areas and developments would also be explored. Functional areas, such as marketing, would be explored from a strategic perspective.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

• Developing a strategic thinking mode – understanding how power is wielded and negotiated in multiple contexts, especially amidst great ‘complexity’.
• Understanding strategic landscapes of industries, including the interface with law and regulation, and institutional variation across nations.
• Discerning the strategic significance of few contemporary developments such as outsourced models of business, vigorous use of informatics, delayering of organizations, modularisation of product.

• Modularization and outsourcing
• Varieties of capitalism, institutional legacies and global competition

• Merger and Acquisitions, including a brief exposure to valuation

PEDAGOGY
The program will use multiple modes of interactive delivery.
• Lectures and readings of concept pieces linked to discussion of business case and analysis of anecdotes linked to ground theories close to practice
• Extensive use of widely distributed knowledge pieces within the web (in public domain) through use of links, thematic sites, etc. to aid considerable self exploration by motivated senior managers and business leaders
• Each platform interaction would require pre-reading and group-based preparation modes by the participants
• Exposure to a few computational and analytical software tools to aid system and network thinking would also be provided on a lab mode

EVALUATION
• Evaluation by: IIM Calcutta
• Evaluation Structure: End module examination and Live Project
• Evaluation Mode: Evaluation may also include one or more of the following:
• Online Assessment/Case Study Discussions/Quiz/Assignments/Offline Assessment (Paper-pencil test)/Class Participation
The final decision on evaluation methods rests with the course faculty and may change without prior intimation.

CERTIFICATION
The eligible participants at the end of the course will receive a Certificate of Completion of the program from IIM Calcutta. Participants who successfully complete the program will be entitled to IIMC-MDP Alumni status

PROGRAM DESIGN AND DURATION
• Duration: Six months
• Frequency: Once a week
• Class Schedule: Thursday, 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm
• Delivery: Through classes at Centre for Advanced Learning in your city, usingSynchronous Learning Technology
• In addition, there will be two mandatory 4-day campus modules at IIM Calcutta at the start of the program and in the middle of the program

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND SELECTION PROCESS

• Applicants should be working professionals/self-employed (Need to produce supporting proof)
• Graduates (10+2+3) in any discipline with min. 50% marks [aggregate- considering results of all years (e.g. 3 or 4 together)] recognised by UGC/AICTE
• Minimum 7 years of work experience (full-time paid employment) post completion of graduation, as on November 1, 2011

Eligible applicants will be selected on the basis of their performance in the Program Aptitude Test (PAT) to be conducted , together with the assessment of background and motivation (Statement of Purpose-Annexure I of the Application Form) based on the application form submitted. Selected applicants need to resubmit the latest proof of current employment at the time of Registration.

FEES AND PAYMENT SCHEDULE
• Program Fee: Rs. 1,00,000/- + 10.3% Service Tax = Rs. 1,10,300/-
• The fee above is inclusive of all academic charges, examinations, textbooks, study material
• All fees are non-refundable. Fees can be paid by cash, or cheque/demand draft
• A deferred payment facility exists with the following schedule:
– With Application# Rs. 10,000/-
– On Registration Rs. 34,120/-
– Installment 1 (Jan 1, 2012) Rs. 33,090/-
– Installment 2 (Feb 1, 2012) Rs. 33,090/-
(Students are to submit the PDCs towards future installments as per the due date at the time of registration).

A mandatory Campus Module fee is to be paid vide DD drawn in favour of IIM Calcutta, before every campus visit. This amount includes boarding and lodging expenses. Travel arrangements (including travel expenses) for the campus visit have to be made by the participants themselves.
– The Campus Installment to be paid vide DD drawn in favour of “Indian Institute of Management Calcutta” payable at Kolkata
– Campus Installment 1 (Jan 2012 – tentative): Rs. 16,000/- (Rs. 4,000/- per day)
– Campus Installment 2 (Apr 2012 – tentative): Rs. 16,000/- (Rs. 4,000/- per day)
Note: Campus Installment to be confirmed during Orientation Class #Initial payment will be refunded completely if the applicant is not selected for the program by the institute. This does not include the application amount of Rs. 1000/-.
Initial payment will not be refunded in case of any/all of the following conditions:
• The application is found to be incomplete or inaccurate at any stage of scrutiny (Appearing in PAT does not confirm application acceptance/clearance of scrutiny)
• The applicant is offered a seat for the program and does not join before the date mentioned in the offer letter.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the application is complete in all respects.
The selection offer letter is for a specific batch of a program. Neither the offer for admission nor the initial amount is transferable to any other program or batch.

BANK LOAN FACILITY

Upto 90% of the Program Fee is available as Customised Education Loan from leading banks to enable the participants to spread the repayment over a period of 36 months. The candidate shall be eligible for bank loans as per bank norms.
Early Bird Fee Waiver:

An Early Bird Fee Waiver** of Rs. 8,000/- on the overall program fee exists for those who meet all of the following conditions:
a) Fully complete and valid applications received by October 4, 2011
b) Appear in PAT by October 9, 2011
c) Complete registration formalities on/before the last date mentioned in the offer letter
